Luxury Inca Trail – 4 Days
DAY 1: CUSCO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA – YUNCACHIMPA (B, L, D)
We will pick you up early in the morning from your luxury accommodation in Cusco and transport you in private vehicle to the Sacred Valley town of Ollantaytambo to have an optional breakfast and stock up on any last-minute supplies you might need. From Ollantaytambo we will go to the official head of the Inca Trail at Km 82 where we will take care of all registration needs and meet up with the rest of the group. The crossing of the Urubamba River (2200m) will officially commence the beginning of the Inca Trail. Today is the warm-up day for the rest of the trek, as it is quite easy and calm. In Miskay we will have lunch along the river and the nearby ruins of Llactapata where you can explore after lunch and your guide will brief you on the trek to come . From here, the trek continues to Wayllabamba (3100m/10170ft), followed by an ascent to our campsite at Yuncachimpa (3300m/10826ft). From this site you will have an amazing view of the great Nevado de Veronica’s snow-capped peak. At the campsite, a gourmet dinner prepared by local chefs will be waiting for you, accompanied by champagne and a massage tent for you to pamper yourself once again. All nights on your luxury Inca Trail trek will include gourmet dinner, champagne, a massage tent, as well as the only hot showers on the trail!
DAY 2: YUNCACHIMPA – LLULLUCHAPAMPA – WARMIHUAÑUSCA PASS – PACAYMAYU – RUNKURAKAY PASS – CHAQUICOCHA (B, L, D)
This is free hike day, meaning that everyone should walk at whatever speed is most comfortable for them, as this is the most difficult day of the trek. In the early morning we will trek through the Llullachapampa Valey (3850m/12631ft) where you will see the cold mountain scenery change to a gorgeous, humid cloud forest. From here will will begin the strenuous ascent of Dead Woman Pass, the first 3km of the 6km uphill trek are extremely steep but you will enjoy the environment of the humid woodlands and the sounds of rivers and creeks. Continuing for about 2-3 hours, you will finally reach the peak of the infamous Dead Woman Pass, or Warmihuañusca (4200m/113780ft). Here, you have accomplished the most difficult part of the Inca Trail and will have a well earned break to rest and to take advantage of this amazing photography opportunity. From here, you will trek down a long steep down hill to the Sunrise, Pacaymayu, River that leads to more ruins at the Runkurakay Pass (3050m/10007ft). Finally, in the afternoon you will reach Chaquichocha where your camp will be all set up with the highest end equipment in the industry. Here, relax and stretch your tired body with a massage and replenish your soul with a luxury meal to reminisce about the amazing day of hiking that you just accomplished with the amazing views over the surrounding mountains that this campsite provides.
DAY 3: INCA TRAIL CHAQUICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMARCA – WIÑAYHUAYNA (B, L, D)
Day three of the Inca Trail is known as the most beautiful, as you walk through varying gorgeous environments including the tropical forest of Wiñaywayna. We will cross a second pass (3950m) walking by two beautiful lakes, from where we will take a gentle climb through the thick cloud forest. The forest leads to a small Inca tunnel before the third pass of the journey(3700m) that gives you amazing views of the Urubamba River Valley. Near the pass, we will visit the ancient ruins of Phuyupatamarca “Town Above the Clouds” (3600m/11811ft) that features many Inca baths. After Phuyupatamarca, we continue to the ruins of Wiñaywayna “Forever Young” (2650m/8694ft) where you are free to explore for a little bit. From here, the Inca stairs you have been following turn into a zig-zagging path up the mountain, leading to a red-roofed white building that serves as our campsite for tonight. Here, there are bottled drinks for sale to compliment your luxury meal and massage.
DAY 4: WIÑAYHUAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (B, L, D)
An early rise today to ensure that we can catch the sunrise over Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu. After breakfast at 4:30am, we will head over to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) with our flashlights, to get to the best point to view the sunrise. From here, we will take the final descent of the trek which will take about an hour, and end at the majestic Machu Picchu (2400m/78744ft) around 8:00am. Here you have reached the highlight of your trip to South America at one of the top tourist destinations in the world. You will get a private guided tour of about two hours followed by the rest of the day to explore the lost city of the Incas at your leisure. Hours can be lost exploring the gorgeous streets of Machu Picchu, or you could climb Huayna Picchu for the best panoramic view of Machu Picchu. Once you have had your fill of the ruins, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes where you will have time to refresh your body in the hot springs. In the late afternoon you will board the luxurious Hiram Bingham train to return to Cusco, the most exclusive and fabulous way to travel the Andes. Onboard, you will be treated to a full course dinner, a show, and cocktails. You will be picked up by your private assistant from the train station in Poroy and transferred to you luxurious Cusco hotel.
